Work From Home – Advantages, Disadvantages, and More

Work From Home – Advantages, Disadvantages, and More

Working from home allows you to manage both home and work at the same time. Working from home is especially easy for those who cannot go out to work. It is a perfect way for the woman who is taking care of the house and does not go out to lick.

Not all companies that allow teleworking have a fixed schedule. Instead, many set weekly or daily goals so that the person can allocate time according to their criteria and be more productive. The result becomes the benefit.

Advantages of Work From Home

Telecommuting is not a perfect option, but it allows some people to better reconcile their personal and professional lives. Especially in large cities where commuting takes up a lot of time. But it is also an option for those companies with multiple locations as they can communicate more easily.

·       Work-life balance

Working from home allows us to combine better work and personal life due to saving time on the move and greater flexibility.

·       Save time and money

Depending on where we live and work, we can save between 5 and 15% of our monthly salary on travel.

·       Higher efficiency

It shows that we are more efficient and perform better when we leave work. Which sometimes contaminates excessive and unnecessary meetings and multitasking. Moreover, the increase in labour productivity is temporary by greater autonomy to carry out the different tasks and processes that our work requires.

·       More autonomy and less stress

Being at home gives us access to a less rigid environment, with less tension and friendlier since it is our environment, which undoubtedly leads to decreased work stress. In addition, by having more autonomy, we reduce our stress.

Disadvantages of Work From Home

·       Physical space for Work From Home

By working at home, we do not distinguish our work life from our personal life very well, which can cause us to end up working more hours, moreover, in the case of not having a fixed teleworking schedule. The situation worsens since the time distribution can “mix” and work even on holidays. In addition, distraction is an aspect to consider because when you are not alone at home, it is easy to get distracted and leave pending tasks from your work.

·       Lack of self-discipline

If you’re not good at track of your workload and don’t have the discipline to stick to the schedule, you set for yourself. But, even though you know you’re tired (and you want to waste time getting a bite to eat in the kitchen) without a superior’s guidance. It can be difficult for you to bring the level of productivity and discipline to fulfil what has been trusted.

·       Remote working relationships

It is perhaps one of the least attractive points of teleworking because although we think they are unnecessary, labour relations encourage our creativity and improve communication. Moreover, we can strengthen significant and lasting ties of friendship.

·       Risk of a sedentary lifestyle

Some inactive people can see their situation aggravated with teleworking because if it is already difficult for them to leave the house and socialise, this can become another reason to isolate themselves. When we work from home, it is more complicated to establish limits.

Tips to make Work From Home More Productive

  • To successfully achieve good productivity and efficiency in our work from home. We must establish discipline and routines that keep us from habitual distractions.
  • Set a start and end time: it is the way we have to control time and disconnect when we have finished the day.
  • Enable a room in the house dedicated to work that is not a shared space. The objective is to relate that specific space to work and prevent it from being used by other house members. The furniture determines our way of working, and it is essential to take care of every detail of our workspace. A sufficiently wide table, a good and comfortable chair, correct lighting (preferably natural), etc.
  • Time to rest offline: exhaustion makes us unable to think clearly and resolve situations. Giving yourself time to disconnect and divert attention from work is good. We return with more energy and focus on the task.
  • Exercise and stay active: avoid a sedentary lifestyle at all costs. Being at home means that when we finish work, we don’t have to move, so our physical activity reduces to the maximum. But, on the other hand, going out to exercise, practising our favourite sport. Physical activity keeps us alive and contributes to our physical and mental health.
  • Clothing and appearance: it is logical if we do not have to leave the house or see any client or colleague. We will not dress and comb our hair as if we were having a meeting. But it is always good to maintain an excellent physical appearance. Maintain hygiene routines and dress codes for the situation.
  • Companies are increasingly modifying their methodologies and work systems. But an issue must receive special attention and split bilaterally: company-employee trust.
  • Therein lies the essence of remote work.

Conclusion

The benefits of working from home can work against you if you don’t know how to manage your time. On the other hand, when you return to full-time employment, you may find that it’s not your thing and prefer to continue working at home.

After all, there is no place like home.
